Sonia Boyce and I were so delighted and excited to be awarded the Golden Lion for the Best National Participation for the British Pavilion exhibition 2022. It is a real career highlight – one that is shared with the British Council team and the dozens of professional collaborators we worked with in the UK, Venice and beyond. I found curating the British Pavilion both enjoyable and interesting. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to be part of the international art biennale and make new connections, as well as working in the context of global cultural relations; it is thanks to the open call that I had this chance. For 2024, the Shane Akeroyd Associate Curator will have the honour of working with outstanding artist John Akomfrah – it is an excellent opportunity.
