Ben Nicholson Design (1933) oil on board, 25.4 x 51.6 cm, Tyne and Wear Museums, Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne

In 1934 the Department of Overseas Trade agreed to transfer organisation of the British exhibition to the newly founded British Council. However, because of complications and the breach with Italy caused by Mussolini’s invasion of Abyssinia, it was 1937 before we took over responsibility for the Pavilion. 

Organised by the Department of Overseas Trade.
